INQUISITIVE plays a different room every two or three nights: a club in Taichung, a hall in Atlanta, a warehouse in Houston, and Singapore in between. Each venue has its own lighting desk, its own screens, its own crew who have never seen the show. The brief was that the show should look the same in all of them, with one person from the studio at front of house.
So the show runs on the clock. Before the tour, every track in the set list was given a timecode start, a ten-minute block of the timecode day that belongs to that track alone. When the DJ loads a track on any CDJ, SINGULARITY reads it off the Pro DJ Link network, finds its block, and the room is already at the right place in the show. The house desk follows SMPTE. Resolume takes clip triggers over OSC. The CO2 is on a DMX lane, so the hit lands on the drop to the frame, not when someone’s finger does.
The cue list carries the calls the crew need to see: an eight-bar standby, then the department and the note. Most nights are CO2 on the drop and one “all go” where laser, video and lighting open together. The set report after each night counts what happened against what was planned: in Atlanta, 61 tracks played, 38 from the set list, 23 extras the DJ reached for, 1 h 39 on air, and the clock never stopped.
Stills from the Calgary night are from INQUISITIVE’s live film. More nights are added as the tour goes on.
